Overview of the Typing Test
The Punjabi typing test conducted in Punjab requires candidates to type a given passage in Unicode Compliant Raavi Font using the INSCRIPT keyboard. Passages will consist of Gurmukhi alphabets, numbers (both Gurmukhi and English), and punctuation marks. Candidates are expected to type the text exactly as provided.
Test Duration and Format
- Punjabi and English Typing Tests: Each test is 10 minutes long.
- Interval: A 5-minute break is provided between the two tests.
- Typing Requirement: Candidates must achieve a minimum gross typing speed of 30 words per minute (WPM) with an accuracy of 92%.
- Errors such as missing spaces, extra spaces, or incorrect punctuation will be counted as mistakes.
- Special characters like lagamatras, half characters, or omissions/additions will render the word incorrect.
Typing Test Instructions
Candidates must adhere to the following instructions:
- Passage Display: Text is displayed in chunks of 3 lines, each containing 32–34 words.
- Chunk Navigation: After typing 80% of the current chunk, candidates can move to the next chunk using Enter or the down arrow key.
- Navigation Keys: Use Up Arrow, PgUp, and PgDn to navigate between chunks.
- Spaces, numbers, letters, punctuation marks, and the Enter key contribute to the gross speed.
- Irrelevant keys such as function keys (Shift, Alt, or Backspace) are excluded from the speed calculation.
Character Rules for Punjabi Typing
Special rules for Punjabi characters include:
- Punjabi vowels, consonants, matras, bindi, tippi, and half characters are treated as single characters.
- Correct Example: Use Shift + G to type "ਔ".
- Incorrect: Typing combinations like "ਕ" + "ੌ".
Error Calculation
Errors are classified into two types:
- Full Mistakes:
- Omission of any word.
- Substitution with an incorrect word.
- Addition of extra or incorrect words.
- Half Mistakes: Spacing errors, such as missing or extra spaces.
Typing Speed and Accuracy Formula
The typing speed and accuracy are calculated as follows:
- Gross Characters: Total characters typed.
- Error Characters: Mistakes × word length (5).
- Net Characters: Gross Characters - Error Characters.
- Gross Speed (WPM): Gross Characters ÷ (Word Length × Test Duration in minutes).
- Accuracy (%): (Net Characters × 100) ÷ Gross Characters.
